Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re wondering about autism assessments, diagnosis, or support, you’re not alone. Autism presents differently in everyone, and many people have questions about recognising symptoms, especially in adulthood. Our FAQs provide clear answers to help you understand the process, what to expect from an assessment, and how personalised support can make a positive difference.

Booking an assessment is simple and straightforward. You can start by completing our online booking form or contacting us directly via phone or email. Once we receive your request, our team will guide you through the next steps, including selecting a suitable time and matching you with one of our specialist psychiatrists. We’ll also provide information on how to prepare for your assessment. All appointments are confidential.

You don’t usually need a referral to book an assessment — you can arrange one directly with us. However, if you already have a referral, we’re happy to share those details with your GP or psychiatrist to support your assessment. If any additional information is needed from your GP or other sources, we will inform you and guide you through the next steps.

Yes, your diagnosis report can be used to access support in both workplace and educational settings. Many employers, universities, and schools recognise official assessments when providing reasonable adjustments, such as extra time for tasks, flexible working arrangements, or additional learning support. We ensure that your report is comprehensive and meets the necessary standards to help you request the accommodations you need.

Payment for assessments is typically made directly at the time of booking to secure your appointment. We will provide a clear breakdown of costs upfront, with no hidden fees. While we operate as a private service, some insurance providers may cover part of the assessment cost—depending on your policy. We recommend checking with your insurer beforehand. If needed, we can supply detailed invoices or receipts to support your claim. Unfortunately, we are unable to process payments directly through insurance companies at this time.

Your assessment will be conducted by a GMC-registered Consultant Psychiatrist, ensuring you receive care from a highly qualified medical professional. All assessments follow the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria and adhere to guidelines set by leading organisations, including NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), RCPsych (The Royal College of Psychiatrists), the NHS, and others. This guarantees that your diagnosis and treatment recommendations meet the highest clinical standards.

Not every assessment results in a formal diagnosis. While many individuals do receive a clear diagnosis, there are cases where the psychiatrist may identify a different condition, a combination of conditions, or determine that no diagnosis is appropriate at that time.

If a diagnosis isn’t given, you won’t be left without support. Your psychiatrist will provide clear, practical advice on the next steps—this could include further testing, additional assessments, or recommendations for managing your symptoms. The focus will always be on helping you gain clarity and guiding you towards the right support for your individual needs.
