"Dr Sai Achuthan was brilliant, and made my autism assessment a positive, friendly and helpful experience. He listened to me carefully and thoughtfully, whilst also guiding us assertively through the process and making sure it happened within a manageable amount of time and that he gathered all the information necessary. He spoke to me respectfully and made me feel considered, heard, and with dignity during a very detailed and thorough assessment."

"Dr Sai Achuthan's report was thorough and considered, and it was clear he had read all my notes beforehand and put in considerable thought before, during and after the assessment. I was so relieved to receive an autism diagnosis at age 39. He also had a friendly manner, and there were some suitable shared moments of levity as well as seriousness and detail."

"Absolutely amazing, honestly got a bit attached! one of the first adults I was able to feel so comfortable to open up with. Very understanding and let me take my time to explain myself. I like that he gave me examples! I find it hard to answer questions with a lot of possible answers. The only improvement would be wifi connection, but im 98% sure that was from my end anyway."

NHS Patient

"Other than this one error - not of judgement but fact - Dr Sai Achuthan surpassed my expectations. Awesome. Thank you!"

"I went in a little under-prepared mentally for my assessment, but my doctor made me feel comfortable very quickly. I can't think of any way he could have dealt with my vagueness and confused as to how answer questions any better. So thank you Sai for that if your reading this. "

"Dr. Sai Achutan was very understanding and listened to everything I had to say. It was nice meeting him, and I felt more at ease as the call went on. I would recommend him to anyone who struggles talking to people, as I felt comfortable the longer I was on the call."

NHS Patient

Dr Sai I have no words for how amazing he was and how comfortable he made me feel when I was disclosing information during my appointment as I struggle talking about a lot of things with people I do not know but he made the whole scenario feel like I have known him for years. He was so professional but always had a smile before we began he explained very clearly the types of outcomes , during the appointment if I didn't understand how to answer a question Dr Sai would give me a scenario I could relate to so I could answer. Even after the assessment and summary Dr Sai did not make it feel rushed (like that's the end of this goodbye) he made sure I understood everything , what was going to happen next and even asked me if I had anyconerns or questions for him. I can not thank Dr Sai enough.

As a nurse with a special interest in ASD, "Unmasking Autism: The Cross-Cultural Revolution in Adult Assessment" has genuinely changed how I approach assessment and care for autistic adults. Dr. Sai Achuthan has created a resource that's both academically rigorous and practically useful. The section on diverse populations was eye-opening (no pun intended!). I'd never considered how behaviours I might flag as autism indicators could actually be culturally appropriate – like avoiding eye contact with authority figures being respectful in many East Asian, African, and Middle Eastern cultures. It's made me much more thoughtful about what I'm observing and why. The discussion on differentiating anxiety from autism really clarified things too. Understanding that social anxiety stems from fear of judgment while autism reflects fundamental differences in understanding social dynamics has been a game-changer for my practice. I also appreciated the coverage of ASD with intellectual disability. Knowing that 10-40% of people with ID also meet criteria for autism, often undiagnosed, has made me more alert. The practical tips about adapting communication and using visual supports are things I can actually implement. This book has made me a more culturally aware and thoughtful practitioner. I'd recommend it to any healthcare professional working with autistic adults – whether in mental health, learning disability services, or general practice. The cross-cultural perspective is what really sets it apart.
