In 2013 he started his training in Psychiatry and in 2014 moved to the UK to pursue an extensive core and higher training in Psychiatry across the North East of England. His placements covered all areas of Psychiatry. He became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2018.

His main area of expertise is Learning Disability Psychiatry, with a special focus on neurodevelopmental conditions such as ASD and ADHD. He became trained in DIVA, ADI-R, ACIA and ADOS-2 assessments, gaining further knowledge in the assessment and management of these presentations. Dr Szavuj, being neurodivergent himself, is of the strong belief that ADHD and ASD are not disorders, rather different configurations of the mind which bring not only challenges but also significant rewards. Dr Szavuj is focused on getting to know the person behind the diagnosis, aiming to create connections and allow for the exploration of the complexity that is the mind.

Dr Szavuj has extensive experience in general adult psychiatry, having worked as a consultant in intense adult acute inpatient environments.

He is currently training to become a psychotherapeutic counsellor, as well as learning new skills in IT, with a dream to develop platforms for neurodivergent people that help them make sense of the complex world we are living in.
