Dr Mohamed Bajaber

Dr Mohamed Bajaber is a GMC-registered Associate Specialist in Psychiatry, currently practising within an acute inpatient service caring for adults aged 18–65 experiencing crisis or acute episodes of mental illness. In this role, Dr Bajaber is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of psychiatric presentations, including psychotic illnesses, mood disorders, personality disorders, and complex dual diagnoses, working closely within a multidisciplinary team.

Dr Bajaber qualified in Medicine (M.D.) from Marmara University School of Medicine in Istanbul, Turkey, and went on to complete a full-time Master of Science in Psychiatry at Cardiff University, where a dissertation examined the role of adjuvant memantine in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Dr Bajaber also holds the Diploma of Legal Medicine (DLM), is a Section 12(2)-approved doctor under the Mental Health Act 1983, and is an Affiliate Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Beyond inpatient psychiatry, Dr Bajaber brings sixteen years of experience as a Forensic Medical Examiner. This forensic background, combined with earlier surgical training in ENT and Trauma & Orthopaedics at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, has given Dr Bajaber a broad and grounded clinical perspective.

Dr Bajaber’s practice is characterised by a collaborative, patient-centred approach — working closely with service users, families, carers, and colleagues across primary and secondary care to ensure safe, well-coordinated treatment and discharge planning, and to support the recovery of patients with complex mental health needs.

I'm blown away by Dr. Sai and his genuine passion & enthusiasm for his work and helping others. I felt listened to, I was accommodated for any of my quirks or notes & questions I had written down. I was allowed to speak freely, go off in tangents and Dr. Sai was able to expand on what I thought were niche experiences so it made me feel really seen & validated. I have never opened up so quickly or felt as comfortable speaking with a professional, especially in a virtual setting. The joy, positive attitude, laughing, identifying with me and compassion made me feel so at ease and I'm so happy that someone like Dr. Sai exists. Thank you so much for everything.

Dr Sai I have no words for how amazing he was and how comfortable he made me feel when I was disclosing information during my appointment as I struggle talking about a lot of things with people I do not know but he made the whole scenario feel like I have known him for years. He was so professional but always had a smile before we began he explained very clearly the types of outcomes , during the appointment if I didn't understand how to answer a question Dr Sai would give me a scenario I could relate to so I could answer. Even after the assessment and summary Dr Sai did not make it feel rushed (like that's the end of this goodbye) he made sure I understood everything , what was going to happen next and even asked me if I had anyconerns or questions for him. I can not thank Dr Sai enough.

As a nurse with a special interest in ASD, "Unmasking Autism: The Cross-Cultural Revolution in Adult Assessment" has genuinely changed how I approach assessment and care for autistic adults. Dr. Sai Achuthan has created a resource that's both academically rigorous and practically useful. The section on diverse populations was eye-opening (no pun intended!). I'd never considered how behaviours I might flag as autism indicators could actually be culturally appropriate – like avoiding eye contact with authority figures being respectful in many East Asian, African, and Middle Eastern cultures. It's made me much more thoughtful about what I'm observing and why. The discussion on differentiating anxiety from autism really clarified things too. Understanding that social anxiety stems from fear of judgment while autism reflects fundamental differences in understanding social dynamics has been a game-changer for my practice. I also appreciated the coverage of ASD with intellectual disability. Knowing that 10-40% of people with ID also meet criteria for autism, often undiagnosed, has made me more alert. The practical tips about adapting communication and using visual supports are things I can actually implement. This book has made me a more culturally aware and thoughtful practitioner. I'd recommend it to any healthcare professional working with autistic adults – whether in mental health, learning disability services, or general practice. The cross-cultural perspective is what really sets it apart.
