Shamoona Ridout, Registered Mental Health Nurse
Before beginning my career in mental health, I worked in accountancy. It was during this time that I realised my passion wasn’t numbers—it was people. I found the greatest fulfilment in listening, understanding, and supporting others, which ultimately led me to retrain as a Mental Health Nurse. It remains one of the best decisions I’ve made and continues to shape the compassionate, person-centred approach I bring to my work today.
I am a registered Mental Health Nurse and Independent Prescriber, qualifying as a nurse in 2019. Since qualifying, I have predominantly worked within NHS community mental health services. Prior to nursing, I worked across both inpatient and community mental health settings, giving me a broad understanding of mental health care before going on to specialise in substance misuse.
I now specialise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of adults with ADHD. As an Independent Prescriber, I have extensive experience completing comprehensive ADHD assessments, making diagnostic decisions, and supporting patients throughout assessment, diagnosis, medication titration, and ongoing treatment. I understand that receiving an ADHD diagnosis is just one part of the journey, and I am committed to helping each person find the treatment and support that works best for them.
During my career, I discovered my own neurodivergence. This personal experience deepened my interest in neurodiversity and strengthened my understanding of the challenges many people face before receiving a diagnosis. It has reinforced my commitment to providing compassionate, evidence-based care where people feel listened to, understood, and empowered.
Alongside my clinical role, I am a School Governor with a particular interest in promoting positive mental health and wellbeing for staff and students.
I consider it a privilege to support people as they gain a better understanding of themselves. My aim is to create a welcoming, non-judgemental environment where every individual feels heard, valued, and supported throughout their discovery journey.
